Today is July 31st and that meanst the writing period has ended! We use the honor system around here, so if you say that your story is done we will take you at your word. :D :D

Note one: What we mean by "complete" is that your story should be "completely" written. If you do some minor re-writes after today, a little editing, a little beta-ing still needs to be done -- that's absolutely fine!

Note two: For archival purposes, we would love if authors sent us copies of their stories once they're post-ready. This is not mandatory. If you want to send us a copy of your story, email it as an attachment to scifibigbangmod at gmail dot com and put "Final Draft from USERNAME" in the subject line. In the body include your username, the names of the artist and beta reader(s) you are working with, the story title, fandom, rating, and a story summary.

Note three: If you are posting to tumblr or posting to LJ/DW but potsing a link on tumblr, let us know and we'll reblog it from the mod account. If you do not have a tumblr (or do not plan on linking on tumblr), let us know if you would like us to make a tumblr post for you!

All right, this is just a quick update so that everyone knows what's currently going on. The third author check-in has just closed. Later this week, we will be making a post of all participating authors. If you missed a check-in or unsure if you are still particpating, please contact us to make sure that you are on this list.

We will begin collecting summaries and rough drafts Friday, June 15th.

+ Requirements for summaries: There will be a template. Don't worry, this does not have to be the summary that you ultimately use on your story. This summary is strictly for the purposes of art claiming. Summaries are due no later than Friday, June 22nd.

+ Requirements for rough drafts: Rough drafts need to either be a complete outline of your story or 10,000 words plus a brief explanation of the rest of the story. Rough drafts are due Saturday, June 30th.

More information for these will be given when collections begin.

If you do not have a beta-reader at this time, please contact us through PM.

Also, artists: A preview of our art claiming post will be up on Sunday, June 24th before claiming begins on July 1st. The preview post will be as close in appearance to the actual claiming post as we can make it, and as such instructions on how to claim a story will be included in the preview post.

I hope all of you are working hard on the artwork and final drafts.  (For you overachievers who finished early, GO YOU!)  We have a handful of stories that still need artists, so please check it out.  We are allowing artists to claim more than one story, so if you want, go snag another fic to make some rocking goodies!

Just a reminder, artwork is due on August 1st.  Next week, I'm going to open the posting calendar (We'll have 3 stories posted per day for two weeks.) so you'll be able to claim your posting date then.

I had a question if the rough drafts needed to be 100% finished by the first. Well...no.  BUT, you do need enough of your story there for your artist to work with and you should probably include a quick recap of the ending so they know what's going on.  Obviously, the more you have written, the more the artists will have to work with.

This is going to be a rather short update (especially compared to last week).  A reminder to the authors to get your summaries in!  We have about 100 authors and about 30 summaries, eek!  Remember, if you don't have your summary in by the end of the 15th (11:59 PST) then you will be automatically dropped.

June 1:
Last Day To Change Your Fandom
Last Author Check-In via Story Summaries.

This check in is going to be a little different. If you are going to be able to finish your story, leave a summary (I'll have all the details you'll need to include on Wed.) Leaving a summary is the same as telling us that you're still in the competition; choosing not to leave a summary before the fifteenth of June will result in being dropped. Exceptions can be granted on a case by case basis.

This summary does NOT have to be the one you'll use when you post your fic. These summaries are to let the artists know what stories will be available for them to choose from during Artist Claiming.

Artist Claiming Pre-Game Post

This is not the artist claiming post. This will be a showcase of how the artist claims will be organized. Each summary will be numbered and artists will be given the chance to preview the claiming post before claiming begins.

Each summary will be numbered the same way it was numbered on the pre-game post. Each artist will choose their top three selections. Artists will be given one of these choices on a first come first serve basis. Claiming will end either on the 8th of July or after every artist that is signed up has made a selection. Claiming will reopen on the 9th of July. At this time, artists will be able to choose any of as many of the unclaimed stories as they want.

Rough Drafts Due Before Midnight

If you do not turn in a rough draft before midnight, you will be dropped -- unless you are in some other contact with a mod before this time. Rough drafts will be sent to our email (we'll give more detailed instructions closer to the date) and we'll send it off to the artists for you.

Authors: if you have not been in contact with the artist or the artist has not gotten in contact with you, please contact a mod before this date.

Artists: if you have not been in contact with the author or the author has not gotten in contact with you, please contact a mod before this date.

A few announcements here, so get your calendar ready!  

June 1 is the last day to change your fandom.  Also, June 1 is the last author check in.  Remember, if you miss two check-ins, you will be dropped.  

June 15 will be the last day to turn in story summaries.  We will start collecting them during the author check in on June 1st.  If you do not have a story summary turned in, you will be dropped.  The artists need the summaries in order to pick out their stories.

July 1 is when rough drafts are due.  

Instructions about turning in rough drafts/artist claims/etc. will be coming in next week's announcements, but I wanted to get those dates out there for y'all.

I'm sure most of the authors are busy writing and are not like me who has barely started.  Just a few reminders for you guys this week.

First of all, the snippet post for this month is up (and on LJ).  Go check out some great sneak peeks and be sure to drop a little piece of your own story, if you want.

Secondly, beta reader sign ups are going on right now.  Sign ups are a bit slow this year, so to make sure that everyone who needs a beta, gets a beta, I'd like to remind you guys that we do have some beta resources listed on our Resource Page. If you need a beta and find one before comments are unscreened on the first, please let us know.  And if anyone is interested in being a beta, please sign up.

Hey everyone!

I hope March has been good to you so far. :D A couple of big things are taking place on Friday, so we want to give everyone a head's up on what is going on.

Author Check In: The first Author Check In will take place on the 1st of April. We'll have a nifty poll set up so all you'll have to do is click an option and you are set. You must respond by the 10th or your name will be dropped off the master list. (Don't worry, we'll send reminders out before your name is taken off the list.)

Beta Sign Ups: We're going to run things a little differently this year. Starting on the first, throughout the month of April, we will be collection beta reader info. This info will be screened until the end of the month. On May 1st, we will unscreen the comments. Then authors will be able to read through the beta reader list and find one that hopefully works with their story.

That being said, if you were undecided about whether or not you needed a beta reader, we need to know by Friday whether you do or do not need one. If your name is on the list, and we don't hear from you, we'll assume that you did find a beta.

Just a reminder to everyone that people are still looking for alpha/cheerleaders.  Please have a look at the post.  If you are interested in being an alpha, please reply on the author's comment.  Tomorrow, I am going to open up a snippets post. This is completely optional.  I know it's a bit early in the writing process so don't panic if you are like me (who hasn't even started)...

Beta sign ups are going to start on April 1st. So, if you were unsure whether or not you needed a beta, please contact us with a decision (when you know) so that we can have an accurate head count.

 We have twenty-four hours until author sign ups close.  I'll be closing comments after I drop my little one at school tomorrow (around 9AM Pacific Standard Time), so all you last minute sign ups need to get going.  Artist sign ups will continue and I will update the fandom list tomorrow when author sign ups close.

This year is looking to be great! We have over 125 sign ups so far and about 70 or so fandoms represented.  We are so excited to see what everyone is going to write this year.

My awesome co-mod has compiled a epically huge, awesomely wonderful list of writing/fandom resources.  If you have any other suggestions for resources, let us know.

Hello to all you authors/artists/watchers from previous years and welcome to all the new people who have joined the comm!

As you all know, author sign ups and artist sign ups are going on right now.  I've updated the artist post with all the active fandoms so far, that way artists have an idea of what's going to be written. 

Remember to promote, promote, promote!  The list of comms I've hit are here and the banners to promote the comm are here. 

Also, we have a prompt thread going on here.  If yo have an idea for a fic and want someone else to try it, go ahead and post it here.  Authors, if you do want to claim it, please make a post so that others and the original poster knows. :D

Well, the official writing time is over. *cough* Of course I'm not still typing out my story from my notebook to the computer *cough*

We've got the posting calendar open! Woot! So go over there and pick a posting date! :D :D Just a reminder, when you do get done with your story, please drop a post over here so that we know that you are done.

Also, artists, signups are still going on. (Signups end today.) My awesome co-mod will be giving out assignments on the 4th. 

I will be updating the Master List after artists receive their assignments so that the authors know who will be making art for their story and the posting date so that everyone will know what they are doing. :D :D

There are still a handful of you who need to post a summary (or let me know that you are dropping out).

Well, things are starting to wind down! It's hard to believe we are already in the middle of July!

All beta assignments are out.  Authors, you should have received the information about your beta.  If you signed up for one and you did not get one, please let me know.  If you didn't sign up for one and you need one now, let me know and I'll see if someone can pinch beta for you. (No promises though...)

I've updated the Master List.  Only stories with summaries are on this current list.  Don't see your name there? Don't worry.  Just drop a comment and I'll put your name back on, no worries.  Also, when your story is finished (it doesn't have to be beta'd yet), drop a post in here so I have an accurate head count. On the other hand, if you need to drop out (boo) then this is the post to do it.

 Authors, I sent out a ton of messages this weekend if I a.) haven't heard from you and need to know if you are still taking part of the Big Bang or B.) you said you possibly need a beta.  Please check your PM for that and let me know (if you haven't...if you've already gotten back to me, thanks!)  Also, I have a post set up for you when you finish your story (don't panic if you are like me where I haven't even started typing my story, but I have it all written on paper, LOL).  Please fill out the information when you're ready so that we have something to give the artists to work with.
